Like Water off a Duck’s Back
“My dear daughter, don’t let them get you down,” my mother would say, “Let it be like water off a duck’s back.”
That saying has helped me through some trying times. Life can be unfair, and disappointments are sure to happen. The question becomes; Will I allow resentment, anger or hurt to ruin my peace, or can I let the offense go?
Does it help to remember that I’m letting go of the pain the offense is causing me?
As I am writing this devotion I am wrestling with simmering anger because of the following, (can I vent?). I received a message that a package I had ordered was delivered, and guess what? It is nowhere to be found. I called the on-line store, did not get any answers, surprise, surprise, (I guess my frustration is showing here), and I even drove to the post office, in a storm, to ask them to investigate, and again, no answers, no help. Why can’t I just wait two more days, like the store asked, (it is their policy), to see if it magically appears, before I go off the rails? No, instead; I want to call the store and demand a refund, TODAY! See, this is where I scare myself.
Thankfully, I can take a moment and ask God to grant me sanity. I can pray for peace. I can pick up my Bible and read some scriptures for guidance.
The Bible warns me to “watch out that no bitterness takes root among you, for as it springs up it causes deep trouble, hurting many in their spiritual lives.” (Hebrews 12:15)
